Analysis on ChessKid
Analysis is ChessKid's tool for studying chess with a computer engine. You can use it to review completed games, try different moves, set up custom positions, import games or positions, and save positions to revisit later.
Kids can use Analysis to understand what went well and where they can improve, while parents and coaches can use it to review games and teach from different positions.
Analysis is available with unlimited use for Kid and Parent accounts, as well as Basic and Gold members.
Analysis is currently not available in the ChessKid iOS or Android apps.
How do I open Analysis?
Go to chesskid.com/analysis to open the Analysis board.
From here, you have several ways to get started:

Make moves on the board | Simply move the pieces as if you were playing a game to reach the position you'd like to analyze. |
Set Up Position | Create a custom position by adding or moving pieces on the board. To remove a piece, drag it off the board to the right.
Below the pieces menu, you have the option to select whose turn it (Black or White), you can also reset the board to the starting position, or trash all the pieces and get an empty board.
The O-O and O-O-O toggles indicate whether White and Black have the right to castle. When a toggle is enabled, that player can castle in the corresponding direction. |
Load FEN or PGN | Paste the FEN or PGN of a position or game you'd like to analyze. |
Load from Archive | Open and analyze one of your previously played games. |
Load Saved Position | Return to a specific position you've previously saved. |
How do I analyze one of my previous games?
You can also open Analysis directly from your My Games page:
Click on your avatar.
Select 'My Games' from the menu at the top of the screen.
Find the game you'd like to analyze and click the game result to open it in Analysis.
How do I navigate Analysis?
Use the navigation arrows at the bottom of the right-side panel to move backward or forward through the game. You can also right-click any move to add a comment or annotation to that specific move.
If you'd like to explore what could have happened after a different move, simply move a piece on the board to try another option. Playing a different move creates a variation that you can explore separately from the original game.
Select the hamburger menu at the bottom-right of the side panel to access additional options. From here, you can:
Switch to Game Review
Start a new Analysis
Copy Notation, including the FEN for the current position or the PGN for the entire game
Save the current position
What can I see in Analysis?
Analysis uses a chess engine to help you evaluate the current position and explore different possibilities. Select 'Analysis' in the upper-right corner of the side panel to enable the features below.
Evaluation
Evaluation shows which side has the advantage using an evaluation bar with a score to the left of the board:
A positive score means White has the advantage.
A negative score means Black has the advantage.
M followed by a number means there is checkmate in that many moves.
Variations
Variations are the engine's suggested continuations from the current position. Each variation shows a sequence of moves and an evaluation, with the strongest line shown first.
Show Moves
Use 'Show Moves' to choose whether the move list appears in the side panel. If you turn it off, you can still move through the game using the navigation arrows.

Yes. Both Basic and Gold members can use Analysis, and there is no Analysis usage limit.

Yes, with some limitations. Guests can set up a position and load FEN or PGN, but they can't load games from 'My Games' or access saved positions.
