Custom usernames on ChessKid

Adult accounts can request a custom username for any connected Kid account that has a Gold membership. Here’s how:

  1. Log in to your ChessKid Adult account and click 'Manage,' then 'Kids.'

  2. Find the Kid account and click the three stacked lines next to their name. Select 'Edit Kid.'

  3. If the Kid has a Gold membership, the 'Username' field will be available. Enter the desired username and click 'Save' at the bottom of the page.

To help keep ChessKid safe for all users, every custom username must be reviewed and approved by our staff. Because of the number of requests we receive, approval may take several days.

Until the new username is approved, the Kid will need to continue logging in with the username they received when the account was created.

Custom username guidelines

Custom usernames must meet the following requirements:

  • Contain 3 to 20 alphanumeric characters.

  • No spaces or symbols other than - or _ (these symbols cannot be at the beginning or end of the username).

  • Be appropriate for young children (no adult or violent themes allowed).

How to check for pending username requests

If you're a parent, coach, or school admin waiting for a batch of custom usernames to be approved, you can check the current usernames of your kids with these steps:

  1. Log into your ChessKid Adult account and click 'Manage,' then select 'Kids.'

  2. Click 'Print Login Cards' on the right sidebar. This will show you the current usernames and passwords for each account so you can see whether the custom usernames have been approved and updated.
